ArCOP received the first ever Coalition Trendsetter Award presented by the Chronic Disease Coordinating Council on April 20, 2011. Stephanie Williams, Director, Center for Health Advancement, Arkansas Department of Health, presented the award and stated in her remarks that, “this coaliton has taken advantage of the expertise of national, state and local partners to promote policy changes at the local level and has used a team-based structure to engage partners with varied interests and abilities. During the past few years, this coalition has received and leveraged financial and in-kind resource to create a locally-grown project that supports healthy living for individuals and communities throughout the lifespan. ArCOP’s Growing Healthy Communities project has not only been recognized statewide, but is now gaining national attention. They have shown that by involving elected officials, key decision-makers, Hometown Health Coalitions and local advocates, significant changes to promote health at the grassroots level can be made.”
